About Cassandra
I didn't grow up in Canada, but I chose to make it my home.
Originally from the United States, I immigrated to Canada in 2008. That experience gave me an appreciation for how life-changing immigration decisions can be, and it ultimately inspired the career I've built over the past 15 years.
Today, I'm the founder of Doherty Fultz Immigration, where I work with individuals, families, and businesses navigating Canadian citizenship and immigration law. Some matters are straightforward. Others require creativity, careful strategy, and years of practical experience. I enjoy solving the kinds of problems that don't always have obvious answers.
Clients often tell me they appreciate two things most: that I explain the law in plain language, and that they'll always get an honest answer. I believe legal advice should leave people feeling informed and confident, not overwhelmed.
That same philosophy extends beyond my practice. Whether I'm educating future immigration professionals, contributing to public policy discussions, or helping Canadians understand immigration issues through the media, my goal is always to make complex legal issues more accessible and easier to understand.
Outside the office, you'll usually find me exploring the local and not so local food and wine scene. I'm a certified Sommelier with the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers, and I firmly believe that good conversation is even better with a great bottle of wine.
What I Believe
The best legal advice is honest, even when it's difficult to hear.
Complex legal issues should be explained in plain language.
Every client deserves a thoughtful strategy, not a one-size-fits-all solution.
Experience matters most when it's shared generously.
People should leave every conversation feeling more confident than when they arrived.
Q&A
-
Because it's never just about the law. Behind every file is a person, a family, a business, or a life that's about to change. I love helping people navigate those moments with clarity and confidence.
-
The moment when something that felt overwhelming suddenly makes sense. Citizenship and immigration law can be incredibly complex, but helping people understand their options, and sharing in the relief that comes with a clear plan, is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
-
That there's always a simple answer. The legislation, regulations, and policy are nuanced, and every case turns on its own facts. Experience is not just about knowing the rules. It's knowing how to apply them strategically.
-
Because accurate and accessible legal information matters. Citizenship and immigration law is often misunderstood or oversimplified, and I believe people deserve clear, practical explanations they can trust. If I can help someone better understand an issue, regardless of whether they are my client, that's time well spent.

I'm a certified Sommelier with the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers. I love discovering new restaurants, sharing a great bottle of wine with friends, and traveling to do the same.
